Reflections is a piece which explores the relationship between various musical modes and a fixed axis of symmetry. The piece opens with a lively, dance-like motif. This idea gradually becomes more agitated as the modes in use move closer to the axis of symmetry, becoming darker and more intense. The music opens out into a wonderfully expressive section as soon as this axis point is reached. However, the piece eventually moves away from this restful place and develops towards a climactic and virtuosic finish.
